Is an Intensive for you?

You don't have to be in therapy forever to find the healing you deserve.

Ready, but short on hours

You're ready to deal with the past, but carving out an hour every single week just isn't happening.

Already in therapy

You have a therapist you like, and you want a short, focused boost to that work without starting over somewhere new.

Struggling, not in crisis

You're getting through the days, but it's hard, and you'd like relief sooner than weekly therapy would usually bring it.

What an Intensive is

What if you could get six weeks' worth of therapy in one day?

An Intensive is a full day, or a short series of days, of focused EMDR work. Instead of spending the first part of every session getting back to where we left off, we stay with it. It's more flexible than weekly therapy, and for a lot of people, more efficient.

The process

So how does it work?

1

Pre-Intensive interview

60–90 minutes

We talk through your needs, goals, support system, history and what you've already tried. It shapes your Intensive and makes sure it's a safe fit. Bring all your questions.

2

Your workbook

Yours to keep

If we decide to move forward, you'll get a customized workbook with assessments and tools to use before, during and long after your Intensive.

3

The Intensive

Full or half day

We start with assessment, plan the work together and practice grounding skills. Then, as time allows, we begin processing the memories that are still running the show.

4

Post-Intensive check-in

60–90 minutes, 1–2 weeks later

We look at what's shifted, how the work is settling in, what's still hard, and what support or resources would help next.

An EMDR Intensive can give you

Real progress, without the long haul.

Trauma therapy without an ongoing weekly commitment.
More immediate relief from some of your most troubling symptoms.
Tools and information to make sense of what you've been through, and to see where you need the most support.
A way to finally use the insight you already have but haven't known what to do with.

Questions

What people usually ask about Intensives.

Can I keep my current therapist and still do an Intensive?

Yes. Intensives are designed to work alongside the therapy you already have. Nobody has to break up with anybody.

Are EMDR Intensives overwhelming?

It's not hours of nonstop memory processing. A lot of the day goes to assessment and building grounding tools, and we come back to those throughout. We check in on how you're doing as we go, and we take breaks at least every 60–90 minutes, plus any extra ones you need.

How should I prepare?

Skip alcohol, marijuana and illegal drugs for two days before and during your Intensive, since they can affect memory and thinking. If stopping a substance could be dangerous for you, talk with me first. Otherwise, get some rest, clear your schedule, and set up a private, comfortable spot with as few distractions as possible.

What should I expect afterward?

Most people are tired afterward, so keep your evening free and plan to rest. Jotting down insights while they're fresh, plus some gentle movement like a walk, a stretch or yoga, can help the work settle in.
