Questions

Before you reach out.

These are the questions I hear most often. If yours isn't here, ask me. There's no such thing as a silly question when you're deciding who to tell your hardest stuff to.

Do you take insurance?

I'm out of network with all insurance plans, and I don't submit claims. If your plan has out-of-network benefits, I can give you a superbill (basically a receipt with all the codes your insurance company wants to see). You can usually submit it on your insurer's website, or use a service like Reimbursify to handle it for you.

Not sure what your plan covers? Call the number on the back of your card and ask about out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health.

Where are you located?

Wherever you are, as long as you're in Washington or Iowa. All of my sessions are online, so you can meet with me from your couch, your home office or your parked car on a lunch break (more common than you'd think), anywhere that's private.

How does online therapy work?

We meet on SimplePractice, a HIPAA-secure video platform. Before each session you'll get a unique link, and you can join from a computer, tablet or phone. All you need is a solid internet connection and a private space where you can talk freely.

What happens at my first appointment?

Mostly, we get to know each other. We'll talk about what brought you in and what you'd like to be different, and start sketching out a plan together. We'll also go over policies, expectations and fees, and you can ask me anything. You don't need to show up with the right words. Figuring that out is part of my job.

How long will I need to be in therapy?

Honestly? It depends. Some people feel ready to wrap up in six to eight months. Others want longer-term support, especially when there's a lot to work through. We'll keep talking about it as we go, and it's always your call.

If you'd like to move faster, an EMDR Intensive fits weeks of work into a day or two.
